Mortlake

Mortlake is situated between Kew and Barnes on the south bank of the River Thames, just north of East Sheen.

Famous for being the finishing point of the annual Oxford v Cambridge boat race, Mortlake was also home to the Mortlake Tapestry Works in the 17th Century and the Stag Brewery (formerly known as the Mortlake Brewery), which, until recently, produced Budweiser.

There are lots of great places to eat and drink in Mortlake, including the Tapestry Tapas Bar or The Ship on the river.

At the top of White Hart Lane, you can stop and have a cup of tea or light lunch at acclaimed tea house Orange Pekoe which is one of our personal favourites or enjoy a pint overlooking the river at The White Hart.

Fancy brunch? Why not stop at No. 40 which you will find further down White Hart Lane For fine riverside dining, try Rick Stein within Tideway Yard on Mortlake High Street.

You’ll find a variety of local shops in Barnes Village and on White Hart Lane, providing all your essentials and everyday needs. At the weekend, make time for a browse in some of the area’s independent fashion boutiques and interior-design stores.

If you’d rather take in some air, the towpath provides a great scenic route for either cycling west towards Kew Gardens or east towards Putney. Or if you’d prefer to just sit and admire the view you can visit Dovecote Gardens or Mortlake Green.
